Waiting Room Furniture That Really Stands Out

by James Bateman on October 13, 2012

waiting-room-furniture-2Designing a waiting room that will stand out can be difficult. It is best to plan out what you want to accomplish instead of rushing the project. Today we will be going over some important tips on how to setup a memorable waiting room and how to find waiting room furniture that will really stand out.

Where Should I Setup My Furniture?

When it comes to setting up the furniture in your room you will want to choose a place that will best suit the way you want your waiting room to look. You can choose a larger room or a smaller room. The choice really comes down to personal preference. If you are setting up furniture for a business then you will probably have only one choice when it comes time to choose what room to use. Many people choose to begin arranging the furniture around a fireplace or window. Arranging the pieces around a television set is also a popular choice. To ensure you are choosing the best location be sure to test out what the furniture will look like in different locations throughout the room. This will help ensure you find the perfect place to begin the rest of the setup process.

Lighting Is Key

There really isn’t a room that can’t benefit with proper lighting installed. Many individuals overlook this, but it is very important. Make sure that your lighting is enough so that visitors can see easily. Keep in mind that it isn’t a good idea to have lighting that is too bright. You certainly do not want to hurt anyone’s eyes. What you are trying to achieve is a good balance here. Invest in additional light outlets if your room is too dark. You can also buy bulbs that are brighter. As we went over above remember if you do plan on buying bulbs with higher wattage do be sure that they are not overly bright.

Consider Adding A Stylish Rug To Your Waiting Roomwaiting-room-furniture-1

A rug with an attractive pattern and design layout can really go great with the furniture you choose. It’s important to choose a rug that will match well with the rooms unique style. Ensure the rug matches nicely with the chosen wall paper as well as the furniture.

Go Leather Where Appropriate

Leather furniture is a popular choice for those who conduct business out of an office. You will find that many attorneys as well as doctors offices have leather couches and chairs in their waiting area. The most important thing to remember when buying leather furniture is to buy quality brands. You should avoid buying cheap leather furniture because cheap leather will not last.

Final Thoughts

When coordinating your waiting room furniture it is important to remember that you choose styles that you also enjoy. If you choose a bunch of furniture that you don’t even like then your finished results will be less than stellar. Remember that putting together a waiting room that is stylish and comfortable will help strengthen your business. Your waiting room is where most people will get their first impression about your business, make sure it is a great one.

Lighting is a good tip and one that I myself overlooked. I think adequate lighting, even in a not-so-extraordinary waiting room can make a difference.

I have actually worked on a number of waiting rooms for different clients of mine. The key is to think practical when putting it all together.

Thanks for the article James.

What color would work best in a veterinarians office?

Some interesting design ideas. I went with a darker color to achieve the look I was after. I do think that a lighter color can be better in some situations.

try using different color combinations and it can really spark some interest in customers visiting your business. I once used a cover for a couch instead of buying a new one. You can do this to say money as well.

I have tried with the different color options, is there one you would recommend to go with a green wall?

I think brown goes well with green Craig. Hope that helps. Cheers!

I wouldn’t go with brown greg, I think that a multicolored piece would do the trick. I just don’t like brown furniture EEK!

Why don’t you like brown furniture Jessica? I think it works well with green and most other colors.

Some great design Ideas. I remember when I first went into my doctors office and the chairs were just dreadful. I would watch some of the other people waiting and see them becoming more and more uncomfortable. These chairs really were THAT bad.

Comfortable furniture is very important and I think any company serious about their business should make sure they have the right furniture in their waiting room.

Probably because of my parents. They used to have this old sofa / bed / love seat in my old homes living room. The thing was just so ugly. I am probably a bit partial because of that.

I currently have a black leather couch in my living room and just love it. I agree that brown can go with some decors, but for me I will stay clear.

I may one day get one, but I would probably go with a brown sofa that has a pattern and not just solid brown.

Ah well that makes sense. Thanks for getting back to me Jessica. I had a negative experience with a yellow chair back in the day that I will spare telling you the story of..

Have a good weekend!

Would anyone here recommend any comfortable pieces. I am putting together a waiting room for a client. It is a veterinarians office. Thank you.

James Bateman February 18, 2013 at 9:57 pm

Hi Doug, Thanks for commenting!

If I had to recommend a comfortable sofa piece that looks professional and stylish I would go for the Coaster Futon Sofa Bed in brown.

I think it is going for around $200 on Amazon. Hope that helps!

I need a good waiting room. I had one setup for me by my brother-in-law. It didn’t turn out great. I may do an update this spring, thanks for the inspiration.

jim_howards February 20, 2013 at 9:56 pm

Thats a beautiful piece James. I would buy it if I had the extra cash. $200 is a quite a deal. I think the original price was over $500.
